Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Inspect hull, fittings and safety equipment
  2. Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
  3. Inspect hull bungs and sea cocks for security and integrity
  4. Check hull condition for holes, cracks and deterioration, and extent of marine growth
  5. Check fittings and mountings for security and excessive corrosion
  6. Complete reports of hull and fitting condition on approved workplace documentation and/or report verbally
  7. Check vessel safety equipment availability against identified requirements and determine condition and report, as required
  8. Check operating systems
  9. Check communication equipment for operational status
  10. Inspect cabin and domestic systems
  11. Check cabin and fittings for holes, cracks and deterioration
  12. Check fittings and mountings for security and condition
  13. Operate domestic systems to ensure serviceability
  14. Complete reports of cabin and fittings condition on approved workplace documentation and/or report verbally

Hull and fittings include the following:

surface finish and general condition of the hull inside and out as well as any fittings both above and below the water line where visible

Safety equipment includes one (1) or more of the following:

flotation devices

communication systems including lights

flares

pumps and bailers

anchor

halyards and chains

emergency position-indicating radio beacons (EPIRBs)

fire extinguishers

torches

lifelines

Operating systems include the following:

mechanical propulsion systems

communication systems

steering systems

pumping systems

winches and cable handling equipment

ultra low voltage electrical systems operating at 12 or 24 volts d.c.

Domestic systems include one (1) or more of the following:

water supply and heating

air conditioning and heating

lighting

cooking

refrigeration

sewage and sullage

entertainment systems
